Abundantly Alive

Life-giving Water

It was a stunning spring day here in Eastern Washington today so I decided to take a hike around one of our nearby county parks and then drive through one of my favorite spots close to home. Pine River Park is home to the Little Spokane River which also runs past our neighborhood. It’s a great place to wander by the river on a sunny spring morning. Green Bluff is a uniquely micro-climated area within a few miles of home and it features farms and orchards of all kinds. I like to watch how the land owners are readying for the growing season. And yet, all the locals know that as long as there’s snow on Mt. Spokane, we have to be careful what we plant as late frosts can do a number on new starts.

As I took in all the sights and sounds of spring I felt very energetic and alive, and I was reminded of this poem that I wrote recently. Nature does a wonderful job of igniting our spirits and helping us realize that we, too, are growing and renewing with each new season. Today I definitely felt Abundantly Alive!

Easter blessings on all who celebrate!

A natural spring rising out of the depths
bursts through the surface of the ground.
An eternal source of clarity 
An ever-renewable purity 
A bounty of resource and supply.
Icy water that quenches the deep thirst of earth
and nurtures the external longing of nature.
Abundance appears in unexpected places,
renewing the land and growing spaces.

My spirit has a spring of overflowing water
bubbling up from the hidden deep 
giving life in the parched desert
when I’ve wandered into the wilderness too far.  
It’s more than enough to replenish
internal cisterns and dry, empty vessels
in constant need of the water of life. 
An eternal source of clarity
An ever-renewable purity
A bounty of resource and supply.
My cup runneth over; I am abundantly alive.
