Cathey, I did not know but shouldn't be surprised, that there was a scientific study of laughter. I do know that I always feel better after a good laugh with friends, my heart is happy. Yes, little kids without knowing provide many moments for laughing, I just love it. The last two days there hasn't been much laughter in my life, although my grandson provided some humor last night when he was sharing about accidentally hitting a goose on his drive home...his reaction was so funny. Thanks for another interesting and fun piece of writing.
I am trying to get caught up on my Substack, so just reading this one from December of last year. Is this A laughable moment? I love to laugh. I don’t have a husband that makes me laugh, but my dog makes me laugh every day. He is so funny. Another friend and I send back silly notes or things we’ve read to each other on a daily basis because we both like to start our day out with laughter. To me laughter is the best medicine!! My oldest daughter, who is a grandmother, herself, sends me children and baby humor every day. Thank you for writing this and thank you for sharing it, and again it’s very relatable to me. Thank you for you And your humor — Blessings my friend.
I just read this , I always feels good after laughing so hard and thank you for sharing . I have cell service in a basement sorting out canned goods to distribute in an hour for our Food Pantry
Laughter is like a gift we can share with people we care about - one of the best feelings in the world! You are such a busy lady. Be sure to take time to enjoy the little things!
I did a couple hours after I came home early evening, I soak myself in the tub no interruption just my music . It’s rewarding for me every Tuesday at our food pantry I been scolded a few times by Ralph to slow down and I told him I will after this year commitment. I turn down a few projects I want to spend time with him and our grandkids.
You are a doer and it's hard not to do when it's in your nature. But spending more time with the dearest people in your life is important and valuable. Listen to Ralph! He knows you better than anyone.
I love your post, I have a good sense of humor and my students always make me laugh, over the years I have also learned to laugh at myself. My husband and my son are a bit serious, but they always look at me with a happy face, which can make me melt with love.
Working with kids as you do must provide a lot of laughs! i was Christmas shopping with my oldest granddaughter today and we laughed a lot. You have such a beautiful family, Elizabeth!
I loved this. I am not fond of most sitcoms or comical movies. When I laugh, I do feel better and having someone in your life that can bring that out is fantastic. Laughing at myself comes quite naturally these days. Grandkids most definitely can make you laugh! Thank you for sharing.
Grandkids definitely are the best for bringing out smiles and laughter. And I have to confess that the older I get, the more I end up laughing at myself! 😂
Cathey I’m a little bit like you I don’t laugh at things others find funny. I love to laugh and it feels satisfying specially if it a big old belly laugh. Thank you for sharing.
Loved this! Reading about laughter even makes me smile! Thank you for this light message! I love a good comedian and a good ol’ belly laugh. It’s medicine literally! Merry Christmas!
Whenever I laugh, it always make me feel better within myself as endorphins are released. I love being around kids as they not only bring a smile to my face, but make me laugh at the drop of a hat. They are just so cute and are so open.
I also love being with my family. We always end laughing about something. Especially at this time of year when besides the normal gift giving, we do joke gifts that relate to the person. Love it.
But as I am home alone a lot, there's nothing to laugh at. One of my pet budgies used to make me laugh a lot, but sadly he's gone now. So I try to watch a comedy every now and then to get me to laugh. It can be difficult to find as I do find some humour not to my taste. Such as rude humour or people getting drunk etc. Like you Cathey, some sitcoms, like Seinfeld to me aren't funny, but just nonsense. I found the characters annoying.
Perhaps I need to watch some pet and kid videos that people post that are funny.
Sitcoms and most comedians are not funny to me. I do like watching kid and animal videos. Sometimes I even crack myself up. But you're so right - it feels great to laugh!
Laughing at myself is probably what I will do. Some AFV videos I laugh at but any hurt of an animal or small child I try to wait a minute before laughing.
😂😂😂 I laugh at the quirkiest things and sometimes I try so hard not to but I just can't help it. Getting giggles during prayer time at church was always the worst.
This friend of mine did that at church and dragged me into her laughter. It was over a sad story. We had to go outside. We she calmed down we went back inside, only to start laughing again.
Laughter is good for the soul. I read or heard that somewhere. Humor is really best Medicine. Thank you for sharing.
Apparently it's good for your physical body, too. All the more reason to find things that make us laugh more!

I hope you find many reasons to laugh over the holidays, Linda! I would have laughed at the goose story, too.
The best part was when he said “ feathers flew everywhere and when he looked back his friends ( geese) were standing all around it”...
That made me laugh just now! 😂

Glad you had a smile today, Mary. Laughter truly is so good for the soul!

Thank you I am listening to him as I am braver now to say no .
Loved this Cathey. I too love a child's laugh.
Also love watching videos were people are drunk. Just asked Andy and George what I was like at the weekend. Even I was laughing at myself.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Too funny! Would have loved to be a fly on the wall!
As usual, Cathey, you've made me laugh! You have a knack for saying just the right thing at the right time.
Your cartoon above cracks me up. I plan to share it extensively with all my "old" friends. 🤣
Glad it brought a smile. Have to keep our sense of humor this time of year!

Merry Christmas, Tricia! And thanks for all your seasonal coping mechanisms. I have employed a few! Laughter helps, too.

This is great! I miss my funniest friend. People move on as life changes them.
I know what you mean. Some of the people I laughed with the most moved to Oklahoma and Arizona. Things aren't as funny over facetime......
